Unpacking E-E-A-T in SEO

Unpacking EEAT in SEO (1)

Daisy Digital has always been a marketing agency that prioritises staying on top of everything that changes in the world of Search and SEO. The most important aspect of Search Engine Optimisation is to ensure that we are always up to date on the ever-changing algorithms and requirements that Google provides. Recently, Google updated their Quality Guidelines to change what was known as E-A-T to E-E-A-T.

What is E-E-A-T, why is it so pivotal to SEO and Search Engine Marketing, and why did Google choose an acronym that makes us hungry every time we hear it?

What Does E-E-A-T Mean?

We can’t answer why we get hungry every time we say it, but we can break down what E-E-A-T means.

Experience: This is the newest addition to the acronym. Experience was added to highlight the importance of experience with a given topic. Google wants to see that those talking about a product or service have first-hand experience. They want to see that the content on your website is written by someone who has industry/product knowledge. Some of the best ways to show this are case studies where you explain what task was performed, when, how and why.

Expertise: Google want to see that you have experience in the particular area you are writing about. They do this through credentials, customer testimonials, reviews and qualifications. That is why it is vital that all businesses obtain reviews on their Google Business Profile, and product-based suppliers are asking customers to review their purchases.

Authoritativeness: This is the reputation and influence of your product, service and brand. The easiest way to improve your authoritativeness is by posting high-quality content (informative blogs and articles) or getting coverage in publications or other trustworthy and respected websites, such as news articles or product review websites.

Trustworthiness: Arguably the most crucial component, these incorporate the reliability and accuracy of your information. Is the information on your website correct? Are your phone number and address real, and if you are making statements, are they backed up? Trust is the foundation on which all other E-E-A-T elements are built; without accurate information, Google will punish your content and your website.

Why is There a Big Focus on E-E-A-T Now?

While E-E-A-T isn’t technically the direct factor on why and how websites rank, it is an important framework on how the algorithm works. Google’s algorithms are always changing, and with the implementation of AI into search results, now more than ever, Google is showcasing websites that can demonstrate they meet the E-E-A-T requirements. Websites that can demonstrate strong E-E-A-T signals are more likely to:

Rank Higher: Google’s ranking algorithm rewards websites that can show they have trustworthy and helpful content.

Build User Trust: By meeting the E-E-A-T requirements, you ensure you are building trust and credibility in your brand. When users visit your website, they can see that your business is legitimate, and as such, are more comfortable when it comes to making a conversion.

Future Proof Your SEO: As mentioned above, Google is constantly changing how its algorithm works. In the past, the preference was backlinks; today it’s quality content, and we don’t know what it could be tomorrow. By aligning your SEO strategy to E-E-A-T, you are satisfying what Google wants to see content-wise, ensuring that should Google’s vision of search change, you are as resilient to the algorithm updates as possible.

How Can Daisy Digital Help With E-E-A-T

Our SEO specialists understand the importance of building a strong E-E-A-T. We understand that it is an ongoing commitment to quality content on your website, whether that is through blogs or product and service listings.

Content Strategy: We work with you to develop a content strategy that not only contains the relevant keywords your business needs to rank but also showcases your business’s experience and expertise. One example of how we do this is through blog content that shows your brand has first-hand experience.

Building Authority: We can build the authority of your website through a strategic backlinking strategy. We also research your competition to establish where they are getting coverage and recommend similar solutions for your business.

Technical SEO: We don’t just focus on your on-page SEO; we focus on the aspects of SEO that Google is concerned with. Does your website have a security certificate (HTTPS), is it user-friendly, and do your pages load quickly? Doing this builds trust for both users and search engines.
