As the year draws to a close, we reflect on the significant journey the Daisy Digital team has undertaken in 2023. It’s been a year marked by dynamic shifts in the marketing landscape and tremendous growth for our agency. Below we will explore the myriad events and developments that have shaped both our story and the broader marketing industry over the past year.
Industry Trends and Insights
AI – It wouldn’t be an article in 2023 if we didn’t mention Artificial intelligence (AI). When we look back on 2023 in years to come it will be recognised as the real year that AI evolved and started to become part of our everyday lives. AI has changed the way everyone works, both simplifying tasks and enhancing efficiency. Apps like ChatGPT allow for streamlined blog outlines and can assist us in coming up with unique content ideas that we perhaps wouldn’t have thought of by ourselves. This allows us to dedicate more time to tasks that help our clients and customers to grow.
Threads – As we covered back in August Meta (Facebook’s parent company) launched their competitor to Twitter called Threads. As the months have gone on the social network has now been launched in Europe as it slowly expands its users. Whilst it currently offers very little in terms of advertising value, it will definitely be worth keeping an eye on as Twitter starts its Elon Musk lead decline.
Twitter or is it X? – Almost all digital agencies will agree that Twitter (now known as X) has started a massive decline since Elon Musk took over. It’s been just over 12 months now, and we didn’t start to see the real effects until this year. One of Musk’s worst ideas included adding subscriptions in an attempt to verify users and allowing those users to monetise their engagements. Spoiler alert, this just helped the bots monetise their engagement. Just recently Musk and X have been criticised for telling advertisers such as Apple to “(expletive) themselves”. 2023 has not been a great year for the platform, and it is slowly becoming less and less relevant from a marketing standpoint. Don’t believe us? Merely spend 5 minutes on the app and you will see what we mean.
Universal Analytics becomes GA4 – In one of the biggest changes that affected us this year, Google required all clients’ Universal Analytics accounts to be converted over to Google Analytics 4 (GA4). GA4 is the latest iteration of Google’s analytics platform, offering advanced tracking and analysis capabilities to help businesses gain deeper insights into user behaviour across websites.
Team Achievements and Milestones
Social Media Growth – 2023 has been a year of growth for our Social Media department. The expansion of our client portfolio allowed our Social team to grow with the addition of both Sidonia and Rachel to our team.
Their expertise and passion for digital marketing have undoubtedly strengthened our capabilities to create engaging and impactful social media strategies, as well as the expansion of in-house photography and video content services.State of Social – In August our social media team returned to the State of Social for 2024. The two-day conference explored the landscape of online trends, strategies and insights. Set against the scenic backdrop of Perth’s iconic Optus Stadium, our team were provided with a toolbox of invaluable insights to guide our future decision-making. Showcasing industry leaders from various disciplines through compelling keynotes, breakout sessions and hands-on workshops, State-of-social creates a dynamic cross-pollination of ideas and expertise.
SEO Team Continues to Expand – Our team of experienced Content Writers continues to grow, and this year saw the addition of Jay to team Daisy. Jay’s knowledge and experience have continued to grow over this year, whilst his in-depth knowledge of keyword research, on-page, and off-page optimisation, and technical SEO ensures that our client’s websites not only rank higher in search engine results but also deliver exceptional user experiences.
Maestro del Web – Our Web Developer, and resident tomato hater Dom, ticked over 10 years working with the business. During this time he has worked on well over a thousand websites, across multiple platforms including WordPress, Shopify, Squarespace, and many more, utilising his many different skills to help clients turn their ideas into digital masterpieces. Here is to a decade of excellence, and to many more years ahead.
Not One but TWO Weddings – Two of our lovely team got married in 2023 to their respective partners with our amazing Project Manager Alannah marrying school sweetheart Josh in a hill-based wedding ceremony, while Finance Manager Lea is about to get married to fiance Liam in what is sure to be a lovely NYE ceremony in Indonesia. We wish both couples a lifetime filled with love, happiness, and countless cherished moments as they embark on this beautiful journey of marriage together.
New Clients and Campaigns
Breast Cancer WA – We assisted Breast Cancer WA with a range of multi-channel campaigns this past year including ‘Bid for Breast Friends’ and their ‘Christmas Appeal’. Breast Cancer awareness and support is something the whole team at Daisy is passionate about, and we could not be more proud to be part of such amazing work with the Breast Cancer WA team.
WA Football Commission – Daisy Digital spent our first season supporting the WAFL and WAFL clubs with Google and Meta Ads campaigns, and what a season it was with the WAFL having record numbers of fans in 2023.
Karrinyup Wellness Centre – We joined with the holistic chiropractors of the Karrinyup Wellness Centre mid-way through the year, helping revitalise their SEO and Google Ads Campaigns. After just two weeks, weekly bookings from Google Ads had grown 600%.
Well Organised – At the beginning of the year, we welcomed professional organisers Well Organised as a new SEO client. Using our Topic Halo keyword research, we optimised their website’s content and Google Ads campaign. In the short time we’ve had them as a client, Well Organised experienced a 250% increase in organic search users on their website.
Predictions for Next Year
Automate intelligence – We believe that AI will continue to grow in 2024. Whether implementing AI-powered chatbots on websites and messaging apps, or assisting in marketing strategy, AI will surely get even better as Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI compete in the space. We are also already seeing an increase in deepfake videos published on Ad platforms including Facebook advertising illegitimate businesses such as illegal online casinos, and pertaining that they have the backing of celebrities. In 2024 these will only get more noticeable unless social networks take action to monitor these ads.
Data Restrictions to Hinder Customer Learning – With the European Union currently embattled in a long-running dispute with Google regarding customer privacy and data issues, we expect that there will be changes in the way that customer data is shared with tools like GA4 on a worldwide basis, which could lead to evolving Google Ads strategies.
Performance Max – Our secret weapon this year with our Search Engine Marketing (SEM) clients would be introducing Performance Max Campaigns and being able to tap into Google’s expansive reach. We have seen across most industries a huge increase in Return on Advertising Spend (ROAS) in turn resulting in a lower cost per acquisition across all metrics.
Social Media in 2024 – The ever-changing social media landscape will keep us on our toes in 2024, but our eagle-eyed Social Team have braced for impact with some predictions of what’s to come in the new year.
Following the longstanding reign of short-form content, TikTok’s introduction of 10-minute videos might be foreshadowing a long-form comeback. With YouTube still proving a top player amongst younger generations, we predict creators and brands will make the shift to longer, more in-depth videos.
We can also expect the regulations surrounding sponsored content to further evolve next year. 2023 saw rapid and ongoing changes in this space; a constant headache for some industries where digital marketers found themselves jumping through hoops to ensure their content conformed.
AI will continue to make waves in the new year for Social, as we expect continuing advancements in multimedia creation and copywriting. Meta’s Ads Manager platform has evidenced this, pushing users to hand over more control with their Advantage+ options.
Bring on 2024!
As 2023 comes to an end the whole team at Daisy Digital would like to wish all of our clients and providers a Merry Christmas and an amazing New Year. May you and your family stay safe this festive season, and we can’t wait to continue growing both ours and your business in 2024.
